Two Layouts - Dina Wakley Style!

Today we have two charming and creative Christmas layouts from Dina Wakley.

For "Joy," I wanted to scatter elements to echo the scattered mess under the tree on Christmas morning. The picture is me and my sister in 1972. On the left of the layout I wrote some of my earliest Christmas memories.

Supplies - Christmas 2012 Calendar Paper, Diecut and Perforated Papers - Label Sheet, Printed Tags - Kraft Flag, Skinny Alpha Stickers - Black, Printed Tags - Vintage FlagHear Ye, Hear Ye Banner Stickers - Candy Stripe

I loved this Big Wheel! I rode it until the plastic wheels were completely broken and worn through. I thought the Santa paper was perfect as an accent, since this was my big Santa gift that year.

Die-Cut and Perforated Papers: Stencil

Our Die-Cut and Perforated Paper line has been extremely popular! I'd like to show you how two of our design team members used the Stencil Sheet on their layouts:

This one's from Briana Johnson. Briana made the paper do most of the work here by slicing it and placing the two pieces on her page so the gap directs your attention to the delightful photo of her daughter.  She then added depth by misting on the cardstock behind some of the letters and then backing others with Mini Pattern Paper from Red/Black Extension IV.

The great banner at the bottom was created by layering pieces of Perforated Receipt Paper and patterned paper from the Red/Black Extension IV line with a sticker from the Memo Hodge Podge Sticker Sheet.  This layout is so fun and fabulous!

The next layout is from Dina Wakley.

Wonderfully crazy stitching and painting gives this layout a great artsy feel.  Dina polished off this one with some misted Chipboard Tiny Tabs, Vintage Printed Tags, and a few bits from the Perforated Stamps Sheet with her title stamped with our Clear Alphabet Set.

Jenni's versatile Die-Cut and Perforated Papers are available in both a manila finish and a kraft finish. You can find them here!

Colorful Collage With Dina Wakley

This morning we have some amazing collage work from Dina Wakley to share!

Here's a journal page from Dina with Lemon Drops on the background and the punched Bird in Flight and Speckled Egg on the Alphabet Diecut paper.

The title is stamped with the Clear Alphabet Stamps onto our Perforated Stamp Paper.

With this journal page, dina used the Diecut Alphabet Paper as a stencil and inked it with Weather Vane Re-inker.  You can also see more Speckled Egg in the background as well as some Cough Syrup on the Bank Statement Paper and Lemon Drops on the Birds in Flight.

Thanks so much for all the inspiration Dina!

Christmas Tag by Dina Wakley

This little Christmas tag could be used as a gift tag, or even as a card. There's just something about tags that I love. They're easy and fun, and you can adapt them to many uses.

I hope this holiday season is happy and full of loving memories for all of you!

Christmas Garland #4 by Dina Wakley

I made this with a combination of JBS Christmas goodies, as well as vintage items. I cut the little cardboard tails (that are under the chipboard button) from the packaging the buttons came in. That red school-paper print is just too fun to throw away.

JBS Products Used:
Christmas Chipboard Buttons
Christmas Place Cards
Christmas 2011 Accessory Sheet

Don't miss out on any of our Christmas Garland pieces!

Thanks for the inspiration Dina!

Dina Wakley inspired by Jenni

My take on Jenni's lovely layout...

Howdy, Dina here with my lift of the talented and sweet Jenni Bowlin. Jenni's work always inspires me...the photos are always the star, and the little details are always so thoughtful. I decided to lift this layout:

Because my photo is landscape instead of portrait, I flipped the design. Here's my take:

Back to School With Dina Wakley!

Today's back to school thought is brought to us by Dina Wakley who writes, "Back to School for me means....a quiet house! When all three of my boys are home, it's fun but LOUD. There's always something going on...laughing, computer games, guitar-playing, IPODs blaring. It's great...but I will say I do really enjoy a quiet house when they leave for school. I recharge and work and get ready for the craziness to begin when they get home."

That Winning Blue Ribbon Stamp

We'd love to show you another versatile Jenni Bowlin Studio stamp today!

The Blue Ribbon Stamp!  Having 2 images allows for creative inking, cutting, and layering.

Dina used the stamp here:

and heat embossed them by inking with Jenni Bowlin for Ranger stamping ink and embossing powder.  This layout has been added to the Printing Press above!

"I love Jenni's stamping inks (made by the awesome Ranger company). They're juicy and vibrant. When I first got them, I wondered if you could emboss with them. I know, I know, they're dye-based inks. But Rangers makes various dye inks that stay open (i.e. wet) long enough to emboss with.

So, I tried it. I took the JBS Ribbon Stamp and stamped it with Chili Powder and Seed Packet inks onto kraft cardstock. I ran my finger over the ink & thought, "It feels dry...it probably won't work." Then I dumped on some clear embossing powder and shook off the excess. And guess what...the powder stuck to the ink perfectly! I applied heat with my heat tool and voila...I had embossed successfully with Jenni's dye-based inks.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but I embossed all the ribbons in the layout by using Jenni's inks and clear powder. I cut them out and they made a fun & easy embellishment for the page. Try it!"

Bridgette Truong shows off her cutting and layering skills on this congratulatory card:

"Excited to be back today on the JBS blog! I have 2 cards to share. For my first card, I used a card from this pack of journaling cards, which are my absolute favorite to use for cards. I also used the new Blue Ribbon stamp set, some of these mini paperslabel stickers and letter stickers.

I thought I might try my hand at paper piecing, but realized after I had cut everything out that I should have stamped on TOP of the pattern so you could see the outline of the stamp, rather than behind. But I love how it turned out anyway!"

Bridgette gave the ribbon a lot of dimension by cutting into the rosette pieces and folding them forward!

Next time you make your "winning layout" try adding a Blue Ribbon Stamp!

Getting Colorful!

Has it been a long winter in your part of the world?  Are you in the need for some bright colorful inspiration?  Check out these layouts using Jenni Bowlin for Ranger products.

In Rainbow Girl, Kerry Lynn Yeary uses five different Jenni Bowlin for Ranger Paint Dabber colors to cover JBS Chipboard Butterflies and create a rainbow.  Little pieces of Journaling Cards and Printed Tickets are sewn onto the border creating a sweet frame for the colorful display.

Dina Wakley made this striking layout and let us know just how she did it:

"I put a good squirt of Lemon Drops reinker into a Mini Mister, and then filled it up the rest of the way with water. I used my custom spray ink and a stencil to create the sunburst motif on the cardstock. The motif was very bold, so I didn't need to add too many other embellishments (I always say that ink is the ultimate embellishment!). Some JBS letters, Bingo Cards, and Star Banner Stickers complete my layout, which is a tribute to how much I love to travel."
These two layouts can be found in the Printing Press above - for downloading and printing as inspiration for your customers!
