Technique to Try: Subtle Layering

I just love the layering Becky Novacek used in this layout.  She used a simple design to create the layout, but added a subtle layer of papers and tags under the photos.  The layers barely peek through the edges, but matt the photos with interest and texture at the same time.  The piece of the patterned paper Compile adds a striking background for the title.

Next time you are looking to matt your photos - try a subtle layering effect like this instead!

Merry Christmas from Becky

Hi and Merry Christmas! Becky here today sharing a Christmas card using itty bitty pattern paper pieces. I really enjoy using little bits and pieces, so to be able to stretch some of my favorite JBS papers makes me a happy girl!

The JBS Mini-Papers are my go-tos for cards and small projects. I keep all of my Mini-Papers together in a stack and I pull them out over and over when I'm making cards or small embellishments. You could use any combination of patterns and colors that you happen to have. I handcut the strips for the little Christmas tree and then used a small hole punch for my mini-garland. I stitched over the tree trunk several times to give it some substance and then just did a simple messy stitch for the garland.

The pretty oval stamp is a JBS limited edition that I believe is now sold out, but if you were lucky/smart enough to grab one when they were available, here's a great way to use it! If you didn't get this particular stamp, you could easily use the 3x3 Label Stamp or one of the JBS Classic Foam Stamps. I used the JBS Ranger Weather Vane Stamp Pad.
I also used the JBS Cream/Red Ledger paper from the Trendy Paper Pack for the sentiment. And the little star sticker is from the JBS Navy Apothecary sticker set.

Christmas Garland #1

Today's holiday ornament is from Becky Novacek who writes, "Hi, Becky here sharing a little holiday inspiration. I love being home for the holidays! All the traditions and comforts, with family all around. It's my favorite. This little banner piece includes many of my favorite JBS products. My new favorite JBS pattern paper is the floral at the top border .... I want to use it on everything! The chipboard pennants are another favorite that I want to use more! I'm getting very inspired to make things for the holidays!"

Patterned Paper Mixing with Becky Novacek

Hi everyone, Becky Novacek here, sharing my very favorite JBS product... pattern paper. All of them! I love to incorporate a mix of eclectic papers into a design. Using up my skinny leftover scraps is so gratifying! Jumping on the bandwagon of chevron design. I can say that my friend Marcy Penner inspired me to give this a shot. My very favorite JBS pattern paper ever is the pink, blue and red floral on the bottom left of the chevron design. I think it's so awesome that even as time passes, I still adore the early papers! I also included something new on this page...the little JBS red brad with the rhinestone inset. Thanks for letting me share!

A Bond Like No Other by Stephanie Howell

Doing a JBS layout with old+new product was a no brainer. I love and hoard all my JBS product, especially anything butterfly related. Here I chose to use old patterned paper and chipboard butterflies, but I updated them by adding the new Doily Flowers and Number Brads. I also used some of the brand new Alpha Stickers for my title, and added some older mini aphas as well.


Since I was using old and new JBS Product, I thought it was fitting to do a "then and now" type layout about my husband and my daughter.


To be fair, JBS products are timeless. I don't think there is anything dated about this layout!

Back to School with Becky Novacek

Today we have just the sweetest back to school post to share from Becky Novacek . . .

Since I no longer have children at home, back to school is a little different experience for me. I usually hear bits and pieces of their experiences as they start back, but I'm not that involved- so doing a "back to school" page gave me an excuse to be more involved! I loved it actually. Harper and I spent the day together and if you look at the photos, you'll see that I must have worn her out, since she fell asleep on the way home! I intend to do another page about our lunch conversation. It was hilarious!

For this layout, I used scraps of some of my favorite JBS papers and embellishments. I trimmed the oval silhouette and the floral out and just layered up a few other pieces that were on my desk from a previous project. I like when pages come together simply.

 

I encourage you, no matter what your stage of life, to document simple days spent with the little ones in your life. And don't forget to hand the camera off, so that you are in the photos and not just behind the camera!

Another Multi-Photo Layout!

It's another fun day at Jenni Bowlin Studio's Summer Camp! Today's camp instructor is Becky Novacek who brings you another fun twist on the multi-photo layout . . .

I sometimes feel badly that I don't get more of the many photos I take in a scrapbook. I really enjoy creating one photo layouts, however, I think for those of us who like to make one photo layouts, there are ways to make the same design concept work for multi-photo pages. I simply loaded 28 photos from the summer (so far) onto a Paislee Press photo template Vol. 25 (it's available through O'Scrap and it's free!), leaving the bottom rows unfilled. That left room to do some creative details and a little journaling. I incorporated a butterfly mask, using the JBS Dabber in Stick Candy, which made me very happy! A few simple bits and pieces of JBS pattern papers, a button, a label and strip journaling finished it off. One idea I had as I was putting this together was how great it would be to print off a number of these and have a page for each of the kiddos. I'm making separate albums for each of them, so this would be a great way to use a lot of photos that I want them to have. I hope this inspires you to try something new!
